The underlying meaning of the word ‘Salud’ is ‘good health’, which forms an important part of our mission. In addition to the sustainable and environmentally friendly production of healthy products, we also promote health awareness among our employees, customers and consumers through sports. With our program ‘together we make their dream come true’ we combine forces with our stakeholders to encourage and help out a sport talent in their future career. Together with you we put an athlete in the spotlight and financially support him or her in making their dream come true.

Mexico – Prisco Olvera Chávez
We support talented athletes from countries where we produce and export our products. In this edition, where one of the athletes is from Mexico, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting Prisco.

Who is Prisco?
My name is Prisco Olvera Chávez and I'm 31 years old. I currently reside in the vibrant city of Tijuana, located in Baja California, Mexico. I'm actively engaged in soccer, swimming, athletics, and my recent focus has been on indoor and beach volleyball. In Mexico, we have a range of tournaments, from municipal to national levels. Notable competitions include the CONADEMS tournament for students, municipal leagues in Tijuana, the magisterial games, and sports and cultural events for professional development. While there are ample opportunities within the country, I believe gaining international experience is essential for honing my skills and pushing my limits.

What does sport mean to you?
To me, sports embody a philosophy of effort and perseverance. These principles extend beyond the field or court and are applicable throughout life. In our Mexican culture, where we face various challenges as a developing nation, sports serve as a way to cultivate these qualities and overcome obstacles.

When did you decide that you wanted to pursue a career in sports?
My decision to pursue a career in volleyball was solidified during my high school years at Colegios de Bachilleres del Estado de Baja California. I started attending training sessions regularly with my coach, and by the time I was in my final year, I knew I wanted to focus on a career in sports.

Who or what has influenced you in making this career choice?
I've been fortunate to have two significant influences. My sports workshop teacher, Jesús Sánchez, played a crucial role in guiding and inspiring me. Additionally, Cecilio Hernandez's influence has been instrumental in shaping my path.

What were the steps you've taken to chase your dream?
I've pursued higher education by obtaining a degree in physical education and sports. I've also continuously expanded my knowledge through courses, training sessions, and focused on physical preparation and rehabilitation, both in terms of fitness and nutrition.

Can you talk about your overall experience, starting from when you began and how you've reached this point in your career?
My experience in sports has been incredibly fulfilling. It's been a journey filled with victories, failures, and countless learning opportunities. Being part of the larger sports community has motivated me to keep pushing myself and giving my best in every endeavor. I've been fortunate to secure several titles, including:

“IT'S BEEN A JOURNEY FILLED WITH VICTORIES, FAILURES, AND COUNTLESS LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES”

  • Championship in the Copa Xochicalco tournament
  • Penta championship in the representative executive tournament COBACH
  • Runner-up in the Champagnat tournament
  • Championship in the ISSSTE tournament
  • Championship in the magisterial games
  • State championship in the XIII sports and cultural encounters

What has been the most challenging experience you've faced so far?
One of the most challenging experiences was during my university years when I suffered a back injury. This injury caused continuing pain and led to surgery and three months of rest. Overcoming this setback required commitment to rehabilitation and strengthening through tailored programs and courses. This experience has influenced my approach to all sports disciplines I engage in. Starting at a young age taught me the importance of balancing training, competition, and rest to prevent injuries. In volleyball, the likelihood of injuries tends to be higher due to the impact on various joints and the technical nature of the sport.

“THE IMPORTANCE OF BALANCING TRAINING, COMPETITION, AND REST”

Another challenge was financial assistance at the beginning of my journey. It took me a couple of years to build a strong resume and become eligible for paid positions that could support my living expenses.

How do you prepare for a competition?
My preparation for competitions typically involves a dedicated period of physical and technical conditioning, spanning a few months. Nutrition also plays a crucial role, and I tailor my dietary intake to suit the demands of the activities I'll be participating in.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I see myself representing Mexico in national and international tournaments. I aspire to elevate my skills and achievements on a global stage and continue pushing the boundaries of what I can accomplish in the world of sports.
